Marv’s Deli
12512 Magnolia Blvd
North Hollywood, CA 91607 818 763 0616
Imagine Magnolia Blvd and Whitsett Ave North Hollywood 1954,
the cars, the people the neighborhood, the way of life. Now imagine today,
2012. Everything is different, except
for the amazing sandwiches coming out of Marv’s Deli!
As soon as you walk in it’s like “Oscar the Grouch” and
Leslie Nielsen had a kid behind the counter and named him “Herman the German” .
Herman was a young teenager when he first started to work at the deli over 50
years ago and now, he and his wife have kept the tradition alive by making all
of the “marvelous” sandwiches just like Marv used to. As a family run and
operated business for 54 years these are
two of the friendliest people you will ever meet and to know them is to love
them!
My first time walking in I saw a few people eating but will
admit I had my doubts. A “regular” must’ve sensed this was my first time there
so he suggested I try the “Brisket of Beef” under the hot sandwich section and
I am glad he did!
This sandwich will put you into CARNIVOROUS HEAVEN!
First, Herman takes 2 slices of Rye Bed, the correct word
would be Bread but after you eat this gorgeous sandwich a nap is
inevitable! He spreads some deli mustard
on one side and the other gets a coat of their homeade Russian Dressing. Then
he takes this huge piece of meat called Brisket out of the “smoker” and places
it on his slicer. Now this meat is very tender to begin with, but imagine when it’s
slow cooked for hours just how tender it is. He’s slicing and slicing until he
has a 3 inch mound of succulent meat ready to be stacked on top of the bread.
Before the sandwich is complete there’s a slice of Provolone cheese to add, a
side dish of amazing Cole Slaw and 2 kosher pickle spears.
Now, you are ready to eat!
You bite into this thing like a National Geographic episode
on Cavemen! The flavors all marry so well together. The meat is so tender it
melts in your mouth and has the perfect meat to fat ratio. The spicyness of the
mustard, the sweetness of the Russian dressing go hand in hand and lets not
forget the smooth milky taste of the Provolone! One bite of sandwich equals one
bite of pickle and a fork full of cole slaw in my book.
This sandwich is to die
for… You know a good sandwich when it
doesn’t fall apart and you get a little bit of everything with each bite!
Before you know it, it’s all gone.
This for me is the best Brisket of Beef sandwich I have ever
tasted. I wash it all down with a “Dr. Brown’s” Cream Soda or Root Beer say my
final parting shot to Herman and take off.
If you’ve never been, the Beef of Brisket sandwich at Marv’s
Deli is a MUST! Stop in, order one and thank me later. You will….
From a Fat Kid scale of 1-10, Marv’s Deli Brisket of Beef
sandwich is a 10! For sure!
